The Department for Education has published an updated version of the statutory guidance ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education (2016)’, which revises and replaces the 2015 guidance. This has come into force in schools on 5 September 2016.
You can read the Statutory guidance for schools and colleges here:
Schools and colleges must have regard to it when carrying out their duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. This means that they should comply with it unless exceptional circumstances arise.
The guidance is organised into four main parts covering:
- Safeguarding information for all staff
- The management of safeguarding
- Safer recruitment
- Allegations of abuse made against teachers and other staff
