This is an exciting opportunity as you will have a key role in shaping and managing the Financial Services area of the business by ensuring service priorities are successfully delivered. You will be responsible for delivering our outstanding services, establishing strong relationships with clients and ensuring delivery of a value-added service. 

You should be a good communicator and feel confident in dealing with school staff at all levels, advising on budget management and forecasting, plus monthly, quarterly and annual statutory returns. 

Job Role

You will be joining a professional team of experts, working independently in a number of different schools within the London area, with an expectation to deliver a high standard of expertise in strategic financial management, reporting directly to the Managing Director. 

The workload is varied and is blended to suit the customer.  This position requires someone who can fit into a variety of situations, listen, understand and interpret information in a calm and consistent way, providing solutions, advice and guidance, ensuring our customers feel supported every step of the way. 

Responsibilities of the Post

✓ Understanding education strategic direction and provide leadership in strategic and financial planning

✓ Provide clear financial information, advice and guidance to Headteachers, School Business Managers and the Board of Governors and Trustees

✓ Prepare and submit annual budget using HCSS Budget Planning Tool to LAs

✓ Assist in deficit recovery planning if required

✓ Advise schools on dealing with major budget variances

✓ Investigate budget variances and report to Headteacher and School Business Manager 

✓ Conduct a “financial health check” on finance system each visit

✓ Perform internal scrutiny to improve resource efficiency 

✓ Prepare and support with the preparation of Budget Monitoring Reports on a monthly/termly basis and present to the Finance Committee and Headteacher

✓ Validate financial data (Bank Reconciliation and VAT returns)

✓ Calculation of out-turn data

✓ Prepare and submit statutory returns for LA schools to include Qtr returns, Capital and CFR returns

✓ Support the end of year accounts and rollover to next financial year

✓ Carry out an independent audit of school funds and report to the Headteacher, School Business Manager and Governors.

✓ Preparation for SFVS and audit which includes:-

✓ Provide advice on all policies relating to SFVS and audit

✓ Presentation of termly requirements to finance committee

✓ Gathering of evidence in preparation of SFVS

✓ Meet with auditors to support schools through the audit inspections

✓ Provide training to new staff in the financial process and of school packages and systems

✓ Ensure delegated financial authorities are correct in accordance with the Finance Policy/Scheme of Delegation

✓ Manage customer and team relationships in a professional manner

✓ Provide advice and guidance on procurement

✓ Responsibility for keeping up to date with current changes in education legislation and guidance

✓ Time management of workload and managing the customer contracts

✓ Identifying new opportunities within the Education Sector and discussing with the Managing Director

✓ Provide support and guidance to other team members as required

✓ Finance systems used must include RM and HCSS or similar packages used

✓ Any additional duties commensurate with the post as specified by the Managing Director

Qualifications and Skills for this role

✓ Hold full membership of AAT and/or be educated to degree level 

✓ A minimum of 5 years of financial management experience in an education setting

✓ In depth knowledge of budget preparation, management and monitoring

✓ Ability to connect with clients

✓ Excellent attention to detail

✓ Proven track record of staff management, meeting targets and delivering high quality customer service levels

✓ Knowledge in using RM, HCSS and/or FSM financial systems
